Why Shree Ganga Cottages is Kullu’s Best-Kept Destination Wedding Venue
Ask anyone who has planned a wedding in the hills and they will tell you the same thing: the big, glossy resorts on the Manali highway look wonderful in brochures, but on the day itself you are competing with traffic, tour buses and three other baraats for the same lawn. Tucked away in the apple orchards of Raison, Kullu — fifteen minutes from Manali, yet a world away from its crowds — Shree Ganga Cottages & Resort has quietly become the valley’s best-kept secret for destination weddings, ring ceremonies and family celebrations. This is the story of why.

1. A setting that does half the décor for you
Shree Ganga Cottages sits on the quiet, orchard side of the Beas river in Raison, Kullu — the stretch of the valley that travellers increasingly choose over the main road for exactly the reasons a wedding needs: it is green, it is calm, and it is beautiful in every direction. Apple orchards climb the slopes behind the property, pine-covered mountains frame the horizon, and a mountain stream runs below the lawns, so there is a soft, constant sound of water under every ceremony.
What this means for your wedding is simple: the backdrop is already done. A floral mandap on the lawn, a few strings of fairy lights through the trees, marigold garlands on the cottage railings — that is often all it takes, because the mountains, the orchards and the river are the real decoration. Guests who have celebrated with us describe the place in their reviews as “peaceful, beautiful and clean” and “a perfect getaway from busy city life”, and that is before a single flower has been arranged.

2. Lawns built for ceremonies, not just for show
Many hill resorts have a pretty patch of grass; few have lawns that can actually hold a full Indian wedding. Ours were laid out with events in mind. The main lawn comfortably hosts the pheras, the reception and a dance floor with the stage facing the valley, while the smaller garden spaces around the cottages are ideal for the more intimate functions — a morning haldi in the sun, a mehendi afternoon under the trees, a family-only ring ceremony at dusk.
Because the ceremonies happen in different corners of the same property, your guests never have to get into a car between functions. They walk from the haldi to lunch, from the mehendi to the sangeet, from the pheras to their cottage — and that single detail changes the whole mood of a wedding. Nobody is lost, nobody is late, and the elders are never more than a few steps from a comfortable chair.

3. Every function under one roof — haldi to vidaai
Over the past seasons we have hosted everything from an intimate ring ceremony for forty guests to three-day destination weddings with the full run of functions. A typical wedding at Shree Ganga Cottages looks something like this:
- Day 1 — Arrival, welcome lunch and mehendi. Guests check in to the cottages, the mehendi artists set up in the garden, and the afternoon drifts by to a Bollywood playlist and Himalayan breeze.
- Day 2 — Haldi in the morning, sangeet at night. A sun-drenched haldi on the lawn, a lazy lunch, and then the dhol, the dance floor and the fairy lights come alive after dark.
- Day 3 — Baraat, pheras and reception. The baraat arrives through the orchard road, the pheras take place with the mountains as witness, and the reception dinner is served under the stars.
- Day 4 — Breakfast and a slow vidaai. No rush to check out before a long drive — guests linger over breakfast on the lawn before heading home.
Ring ceremonies and engagements are just as popular, especially with families from Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab who want a weekend in the mountains without a wedding-sized guest list. Our team handles the tilak, the stage and the shagun arrangements, and the evening ends with dinner and a bonfire — which brings us to the next point.

4. Food that your guests will still be talking about
A wedding is remembered for two things: how it felt and how it tasted. Our kitchen runs a full multi-cuisine operation — North Indian, Himachali, Chinese and Continental — and for weddings we build the menu with the family function by function. Think a traditional Himachali dham served on leaf plates for the afternoon lunch, live tandoor and chaat counters at the sangeet, a lavish buffet with dessert stations for the reception, and a barbecue night by the bonfire for the younger crowd.
Breakfast is served every morning for the staying guests, the bar can be opened for the evening functions, and room service runs for the grandparents who would rather have chai in their cottage than in the dining hall. Reviewers regularly single out the dining and the staff who serve it — and after a long day of ceremonies, that matters more than any centrepiece.

5. Your guests stay where the wedding is
The biggest headache of a destination wedding is usually accommodation — guests scattered across three hotels, two of them stuck in traffic when the pheras begin. At Shree Ganga Cottages the wedding party stays on the property, in luxury wooden cottages and rooms named after the flowers of the valley: Snowdrop, Peony, Hibiscus, Tuberose, Cosmos. Each has a private bathroom with hot water, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and views that open onto the orchards and the mountains.
For the couple’s immediate family we usually recommend the two-bedroom villa, and for larger weddings we can arrange overflow stays at trusted properties in Raison just minutes away. Daily housekeeping, 24-hour front desk, laundry with a one-day turnaround (a lifesaver when a lehenga meets a haldi stain), baggage storage and airport or Bhuntar shuttle on request round things off.

6. A team that treats your wedding like their own
Read through our Google reviews and one name comes up again and again: our General Manager, Mr. Tek Singh Chauhan. Families who have married here describe him as “humble, cooperative and polite” and talk about a staff that was “extremely cooperative, professional and attentive to every detail”. One family wrote about a wedding day when it rained, and how the team rearranged everything so the function went ahead in comfort. That is the Shree Ganga way — a small, experienced team that has run enough weddings to stay calm when the weather, the DJ or the baraat timing does not.
“I recently organized my daughter’s destination wedding at this hotel, and the experience was truly wonderful… I would highly recommend this hotel for weddings, family functions and holidays if you want a peaceful, beautiful and clean place.”

We work with local decorators, florists, pandits, mehendi artists, DJs and photographers who know the property well, so you can bring your own vendors or let us put the whole team together. Either way, there is one point of contact — not six.

7. The mountains are part of the guest list
A destination wedding should feel like a holiday for the guests, and Raison makes that effortless. River rafting on the Beas starts almost at our doorstep. Naggar Castle and the Roerich Gallery are a twenty-minute drive. Manali, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel are an easy day trip for the cousins who arrive a day early, and a one-kilometre walk uphill from the property takes you through apple orchards to a friendly village — the perfect morning-after stroll for the older guests.
In the evenings we light the bonfire on the lawn. It is where most of our weddings actually happen, if we are honest — the part where the two families stop being two families.

When to plan your wedding in Kullu
March to June is the classic season — apple blossom in March and April, warm clear days and cool evenings through May and June, and the lawns at their greenest. September to November is the quiet second season: post-monsoon skies are the clearest of the year, the orchards are heavy with apples, and the light for photographs is unbeatable. December to February brings snow on the surrounding peaks and the occasional snowfall at the property itself, which makes for a magical, intimate winter wedding — just plan the ceremonies around heated indoor spaces and bonfires. We generally advise avoiding the peak of the monsoon in July and August for outdoor functions.
A few honest planning tips
- Book early for weekends in April–June and October. Weekend dates in the wedding season go quickly, and booking early also gives you first pick of the best local decorators and pandits.
- Give your guests a day to arrive. Bhuntar (Kullu) airport is about 40 minutes away and Chandigarh is a 6–7 hour drive. A welcome dinner the night before the first function sets the tone.
- Plan a rain back-up. Mountain weather is mountain weather. Our restaurant and covered areas can take the functions indoors at short notice, and we have done it more than once.
- Keep the guest list to what the lawns love. We are at our best for intimate and mid-sized celebrations, where everyone can stay together on the property and every guest is personally looked after. Talk to us about your numbers and we will tell you honestly what works.
- Respect the valley’s evenings. Raison is a peaceful village and we keep it that way; loud music winds down later in the night, which most families find is exactly when the bonfire conversations begin.
